Wrapping up summer, replaced with wind and rain.

in Planting Updates

Hello October! The leaves are changing, the mornings are crisp and us Washingtonians are ready for fall.  Well, the transition from summer to fall is really what we love.  Those cold mornings and warm afternoons, before the temp dips again in the evening. I am talking about 40 degrees in the morning and a 30 degree increase in temps for the afternoon.  That is what I crave! I love those warm afternoons.

What a year it has been…can you believe that we are almost in November? I have been slacking on the blog posts, due to me working outside and selling flowers!  I have learned quite a bit about the biz this year.  To be honest, it is almost feeling like an over-saturated market for dahlia growers.

Fortunately for me, Consolidated Plants is not only dedicated to beautiful dahlias and flowers but a variety of other services too.  I have been diligently collecting my sunflowers seeds for my seed starter kits! I have at least four different kinds of sunflower seeds that the birds (blue jays, flickers, stellar jays) have not eaten.  I did leave several for them, hoping for random sunflowers next year around my hillside.  I have also been collecting sweet pea seeds….althought not too aggressively as I still have an overwhelming number from last year.  On a side note, I just cut three sweet pea buds and added them to a bouquet…in October.  Take that in! Growing since spring and they still smelled so sweet; I love that.

I am so thankful for Michelle at The Happy Tree Cafe, just below Beacon Hill.  What a special treat for our neighborhood! Delicious coffee and snacks, and a spot to sell my goodies.

Currently, I am putting the vibe out to find a cooler for my flowers..and lo and behold, what does my husband find online? A nice, used cooler!  I hope it works out…

Funnily enough, it is now the end of October…and those crisp mornings are replaced with wind, rain and darkness.  For some reason, this blog post has been a challenge to write.  Started in September, deleted and started again in October.

So here we are…the 24th of October.  Dahlia digging has commenced.  I will be leaving some tubers, and pulling others to divide and sell.  Seed starter kits will be mailed soon for the spring.  And houseplants….I have too many and would like to get rid of several (I mean….at least 75!).  Interested in a specific houseplant? Please let me know: Kat@ConsolidatedPlants.com.
