Awakening of Dahlia Tubers
April 18, 2025.
The dahlias tubers have been awoken and removed from their sawdust, divided and either planted outside or back in a bed of sawdust to wait for the eyes to develop more. Lost a few along the way but I do feel much more confident in dividing tubers.
I bought my tubers from Swan Island and Triple Wren Farms in 2023, my first year growing dahlias. And wow, they were prolific.
After my first year of dahlias, I thought it can’t be too hard to divide those tubers…which I did in spring of 2024. I planted over 60 dahlias…but they were not nearly as prolific as 2023. I wondered why….the weather? The soil health? My tubers that I divided?
This year, 2025, I divided tubers but also left several together with multiple eyes, to see how that will affect the growth of flowers.
As of today, I have about 60 tubers planted…quite excited to see how they will grow with the additional nutrients I added to the soil..
